Get to know the people behind the mission! Each month we’ll introduce a member of our incredible, hard-working team. Meet the whole Second Helpings staff here.
Name: Anne King
Title: Culinary Job Training Employment Specialist
How long have you worked at Second Helpings?
7 years on March 13 this year. My first day was Corks and Forks!
What do you like most about your job?
I love it when a graduate comes back beaming with a smile on their face because they landed a job, got a raise or promotion, or enrolled in Culinary School!
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Never underestimate someone who has the will and determination, despite having a mountain of challenges. Our students remind me of that all the time.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Something outside and active. I am a bit of a geology geek, and I love the Southwest. Maybe someday you’ll find me working as a Park Ranger! I also love the food and beverage industry. I have been in it since I was 16, but always at the Front of the House. I wish I would have gone to culinary school….there is still time!
Where is your favorite place to be?
The Sangre de Cristo Mountains just north of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Favorite line from a movie or book?
One of my favorite classics is To Kill a Mockingbird. I recently saw the play here in Indianapolis. I was reminded of this quote “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” It’s a good reminder for me.
