I’m excited to introduce Mark Steckbeck, our Volunteer of the Month for May! He has been an incredible member of our team, working in both our Food Rescue and Hunger Relief programs. We’re so grateful for Mark’s support of our mission!

How did you become involved with Second Helpings?
A friend of mine who is also a volunteer at Second Helpings, Sheryl Proctor, invited me to check out Second Helpings. I checked it out. The people were all helpful and friendly, so I signed up.
What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?
Since I’ve been volunteering with Second Helpings, I’ve worked on the tilt, in the Hub, as driver companion for food deliveries and food rescue. I mostly work in the Hub and food delivery because I like to move around a lot.
What have you liked best about volunteering with us?
Getting to know the employees and other volunteers and getting to experience the joy we bring when delivering food to our clients.
What are you most proud of accomplishing through your volunteer work here?
I feel that I’ve gotten proficient in the two areas where I’ve worked the most: food delivery driver companion and the Hub.
What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?
I like keeping pretty active and enjoy flower gardening and landscaping, riding my bike, walking, fishing and going to the gym. When I’m not doing that, I enjoy reading and plotting my next vacation.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
As a freshman in high school I weighed 93 pounds.
