I am so happy to present to you Mimi Truex, Second Helpings’ Volunteer of the Month for March 2024! She quietly worked behind the scenes for the last few months getting the Corks & Forks silent auction up and running to ensure it all ran smoothly. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our mission.

How did you become involved with Second Helpings?
Jen Vigran asked me to come help with the auction about 10 years ago. I had previously worked at my son’s schools’ auction for many years. She knew that I knew what to do. I love it so much, that I keep coming back every year!
What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?
I pretty much have just helped with the Corks & Forks auction. Entering items in the database, numbering them, as well as auction set-up and check-out.
What have you liked best about volunteering with us?
I love volunteering for Second Helpings because I love the mission. Such an amazing organization. When I retire I hope to help more, probably chopping or something in the kitchen. I love that my efforts have helped to raise money for Second Helpings. More money equals more meals!
What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?
I am a residential real estate appraiser and have been for over 30 years.
Do you volunteer for any other organization?
No, at this time I do not volunteer with any other organizations. Second Helpings is my #1!!
What would people be surprised to know about you?
People might be surprised to know that I love to travel. Since 2017 I have been to Croatia, Switzerland, Cayman Islands, Spain, Japan, Ecuador/Galapagos Islands, Greece, Quebec City, Brazil (Rio and Sao Paolo) and Portugal. In leave soon for London and Ireland. In addition, I have visited at least ten different states in the US during that time as well.
