I am happy to present Tony Shuler to you as Second Helpings’ Volunteer of the Month for August 2023. Tony has served here for 4 years and volunteers on the tilts making delicious meals on Tuesdays. Thanks for all you do, Tony!
Learn more about Tony in his own words below.
How did you become involved with Second Helpings?
I had been involved with Second Helpings during my career with US Foods so I knew a little about the organization and I wanted to build on that once I retired 4 years ago.
What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?
I usually am a tilt operator (cook the hot food) but have no issues jumping in wherever I may be needed for that given day.
What have you liked best about volunteering with us?
It has been great to build relationships with many of the other people I volunteer with who seem to have a very similar feeling about helping the community as I do.
What are you most proud of accomplishing through your volunteer work here?
It is a great feeling to know that I am just a small piece of the big puzzle knowing that we are providing meals to people who need it and may not know where their next meal is coming from without our assistance.
What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?
When I am not volunteering at Second Helpings, I play pickleball, catch up with people that had slipped through the cracks, and love to travel. I am also on the Board in the Herron-Morton neighborhood that keeps me very busy.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
People may be surprised that I am also an ordained minister.
