I am so happy to present to you our April Volunteer of the Month Beth Kinn! She is an amazing part of our Hunger Relief Kitchen volunteer team, and has served over 1,100 hours – 315 shifts. Beth is always willing to go the extra mile. We are so happy she chose Second Helpings to share her time and talents.
See below Beth’s thoughts on her time here at Second Helpings.
“I found out about Second Helpings while a part of Impact 100 in 2013. After seeing the facility and hearing of the work being done, I signed up to volunteer. I started coming just every other Thursday with a friend, who stopped after a few years and then another friend who also stopped after a few years. Then I began every Thursday afternoon in the kitchen. I have only been a kitchen volunteer, where I feel most needed. I started as a pan wrapper but now really enjoy doing my own pans, emptying out the blast chiller of the morning work and helping keep the other volunteers busy! I now help most Wednesdays as well as my usual Thursdays. I value the friendships I have made while volunteering here as well.
I helped at my church’s food pantry before the pandemic but haven’t gone back to that yet. I keep busy with gardening, long walks, and needlework. I enjoy road biking and traveling with my husband, Bob but this of course has been hampered by the pandemic. We do travel to visit our two out-of-state sons and see our local son and his wife frequently.”
