I am so excited to introduce Marcia Doty to all of you, as our newest Volunteer of the Month! The service she provides every Tuesday afternoon, and with our fundraising events, speaks volumes about our mission. I appreciate how she makes herself available whenever we need extra hands. Please help me congratulate Marcia on this award.
Laney Glick, our Senior Kitchen Coordinator, said, “Marcia is a wonderful weekly volunteer in the Hunger Relief kitchen. She helps us wrap our meals on Tuesdays, and often helps us chop lots of produce. We always value the bright energy she brings to the kitchen.”

How did you become involved with Second Helpings?
I heard about Second Helpings because I have a friend from college whose daughter is married to [Second Helpings founder] Jean Paison’s son!
What things have you done since you began volunteering with us?
I usually “wrap” pans or chop veggies, but have also made sandwiches, led corporate volunteer groups and even worked in the dish room for a while.
What have you liked best about volunteering with us?
The best part about volunteering is getting to know the staff and making great friends along the way. (Yay Tuesday afternoon!)
What do you do when you’re not volunteering with us?
When I’m not volunteering, I like to travel, play a little golf, and cook for my kids and grandkids. I also enjoy reading and yoga.
Do you volunteer for any other organization?
I also volunteer at “Random Acts of Flowers”. It is an organization that repurposes donated flowers and makes bouquets that are sent to hospitals and nursing homes.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
Some might be surprised that I am an artist who likes to create paintings of people.
