Are you hiring for qualified cooks? Our Culinary Job Training program fully prepares students with the culinary and job skills to succeed in foodservice careers. With students graduating every seven weeks, Second Helpings can help you fill vacancies with qualified candidates. You may even benefit from possible WOTC tax credits.
All students are trained in the following:
Skills Beyond the Kitchen
As students complete modules, they are trained on:
- Food Safety Training—ServSafe® Food Handlers Certification
- Job Interview Skills and Job Readiness
- Time Management
- Financial Literacy
- Life Skills Coaching
- Team-building
- Support/Guidance from staff
Culinary Skills
- Knife Skills
- Mise en Place
- Buffet Set-Up and Cook-to-Order Skills
- Soups, Stocks, and Sauces
- Seasonings and Flavorings
- Classic Cooking Techniques and Preparation
- Breakfast Cookery
- Poultry, Beef, Pork, Fish, and Vegetarian Cooking
- Sous Chef Practice and Instruction
Instruction
- Combined classroom instruction (based on college-level book Intro to Culinary Arts) and intensive food preparation (with instruction from Second Helpings Chefs & Guest Chefs)
- Ivy Tech credit hours — Basic Food Theory, Safety and Sanitation course
- Cook Certification — AHLEI (American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute)
