For partner agencies like Hollis Adams, Second Helpings provides more than food. With your support, you show our neighbors that you care.
Hollis Adams operates out of Spirit of Joy Church on the north side of Indianapolis. They live out their mission to “open the world to adults with developmental disabilities” through offering a day program Monday-Friday, and special outings and activities for their guests.
“Offering a safe place to have fun and make friends is so important,” explains Executive Director Gregg Puls. “I think we all felt a sense of isolation during the early pandemic, and that’s something that has always been a part of life for most of our participants in the disability community. To have a safe place to come – that doesn’t feel like school – where they can have fun and develop true friendships is so valuable.”
As part of their day program, Hollis Adams serves 40 Second Helpings meals for lunch every day.
Before they became a partner agency in 2019, their small staff purchased and prepared their daily meals with a food budget of $1,000 per month. Now, that money and staff time are directed back into their mission to support their participants in creating a fulfilling life.
Second Helpings provides 200 meals to Hollis Adams every week – and has delivered more than 22,000 meals and 600 pounds of additional food to them since we started working together in 2019.
“Food is a huge part of our day here,” Puls shares. “Food is something we can gather around and get to know each other. For our participants with limited ability or transportation options, sometimes food is the thing that most marks a special occasion – like getting a special meal for their birthday or holiday.”
We can all relate to the special role food plays in our lives. Beyond providing nourishment, a delicious, filling meal brings joy and comfort, especially after a difficult day.
Thank you for your support to continue feeding Indy.
