Do you remember long summer days with friends? Maybe at a camp or in a park? Lemonade? Watermelon? Special foods are always a part of summer. Like you, youth who receive Second Helpings meals look forward to summer because they get special foods that are different and fun.
One in 5 Hoosier kids is hungry, and Second Helpings meals make a difference.
Each summer, our partners at Jameson Camp serve youth with social, emotional and behavioral challenges, where campers experience delicious meals that are far from the school cafeteria food they receive the rest of the year. Director of Camp Operations Tim Nowak recently told us:
“Our campers are excited to try something they may never have tasted before. Parents tell us that they appreciate the stretch that we provide for their children. With Second Helpings, Jameson Camp has another way to help youth grow and develop.”
At Second Helpings, because of financial support from people like you, we use donated ingredients to design and deliver nutritious and tasty meals for homeless shelters, day camps, senior centers – a total of more than 90 locations. This is part of our mission to #FeedIndy. Your partnership as a donor is vital because it enables us to prepare and deliver more than 4,000 meals each day.
The work of donors and volunteers to transform lives through the power of food is expanding. We recently partnered with Camp Camby, which provides housing and hope for formerly homeless veterans and their families in Hendricks County. With Second Helpings’ meals, this new partner agency can serve more people and help them out of crisis and into permanent housing.
Your gifts provide more than food. With your support, you show care for fellow Hoosiers. Through Second Helpings, a child might taste a pineapple or mandarin orange for the first time. Someone will have a meal they would otherwise miss. A person in need will be nourished. Every contribution matters. Every dollar helps Second Helpings bring about a better community. Be part of the movement to #FeedIndy.
